Grant writing
Securing grants is one of the most important and time-consuming tasks for junior faculty within research. Junior Faculty organise writing workshops with mentor and peer support for large and small grants. We also host seminars on all aspects of grant acquisition, from finding funding agencies and foundations, writing and managing project budgets, to the review process and inspirational success stories. Navigating the university
Understanding the university can be daunting, so to help, we organise seminars to assist you in navigating positions, career portfolios, and the promotion system. Sharing stories among current and former junior faculty about career paths on and beyond the tenure track, in and outside academia, is also part of this scope. We also collaborate with the union (SULF) on topics such as what to do in case of unemployment andthe Swedish pension system. Read more on activities on Navigating the University.
Other topics
Junior Faculty collaborate with several bodies across the university to organise seminars on topics of interest to junior faculty, for example:
- Innovation and impact with UU Innovation
- External research collaboration with the Division for Research and Partnership Support
- Interdisciplinary research and collaborations with CIRCUS
In addition, we organise our own seminars on anything from science communication to work–life balance.
Reports and guides
In 2023, Junior Faculty, the doctoral board of Uppsala University (Doktorandnämnden, DN), and Uppsala University Postdoc Association (UUPA) conducted a survey to identify migration-related issues experienced by PhD students, postdocs, and researchers at UU. We are very grateful to all who answered the survey, which helped us identify how the university can better support staff with migration issues in the future.
Junior Faculty have compiled a short guide for incoming researchers with scholarships on what to consider before and during your stay at Uppsala.
